Both the New York Times and Voices of Iraq are reporting that Iraq’s parliament adjourned for its summer break without voting on the provincial election law. The legislature will not come back until September 9. The Speaker of Parliament Mahmoud Mashhadani said that a special committee would be formed to try to work out a deal over the bill during the break with the assistance of the United Nations. Mashhadani also said that if any breakthroughs were made parliament could have a special session.
